Early morning shooting at UCHealth Greeley Hospital spills into Evans, putting two schools on temporary lockdown

Police have accounted for a suspect they say is responsible for a shooting early this morning at a Greeley hospital.
Police and other first responders are still at the UCHealth Greeley Hospital, 6767 W. 29th St., as of 10:15 a.m. Thursday, but police say there is no active threat, according to a Greeley Police Department news release. Police would not say whether anyone was injured in the shooting.
“We are working closely with Greeley police, who think this may be an isolated case of domestic violence,” UCHealth said in a statement issued Wednesday morning. “While we don’t believe there is an ongoing threat, we have extra security on campus to ensure the safety of our patients, visitors, staff and providers.”
It is unclear exactly how, but that shooting is tied to a heavy police presence in Evans near Chappelow Arts Magnet School. Evans police did not immediately return a phone call for questioning but asked residents to avoid the area and said officers are at the school out of an abundance of caution in a Facebook post at 9:19 a.m. Thursday.
Greeley-Evans School District 6 Communications Director Theresa Myers said both Chappelow and Dos Rios Elementary school went on lockdown around 8:30 a.m. Both schools were released from lockdown and put on secure status just after 10 a.m.
Myers said the schools will have extra support in place tomorrow for students affected by the threat.
Greeley police ask anyone with any information on the shooting to contact the department at 970-350-9605.
