A woman and a teenage girl were killed early Sunday morning in an Aurora crash after a driver ran a red light, police said.
Aurora officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Alameda Parkway and South Airport Boulevard at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday, near Buckley Space Force Base, according to a news release from the police department.
The crash included three cars: an Audi sedan, a Hyundai sedan and a Toyota sedan, police said.
The 18-year-old Audi driver ran a red light and collided with the Hyundai, which had a green light and was crossing the intersection on westbound Alameda, according to the news release.
Both people in the Hyundai, a 37-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl, died at the scene of the crash, police said. They will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
Paramedics took the 18-year-old man driving the Audi to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. His passenger, a 16-year-old girl, had minor injuries.
The Toyota driver, who was stopped in a turn lane at the intersection and was hit after the initial collision, also had minor injuries.
In addition to running the red light, investigators also believe the Audi driver was speeding, police said.
He remained hospitalized Sunday morning and had not yet been arrested, police said. He will be publicly identified if and when charges are filed.
