Hiker discovers human remains on national forest trail in Summit County

A Colorado hiker discovered human remains near Officer’s Gulch in Summit County last week, sheriff’s officials said.

The 1.1-mile loop trail near Frisco in the White River National Forest is a popular area for bird watching, fishing and hiking.

The hiker found the man’s “decomposed body” on Friday afternoon, sheriff’s officials said in a news release. The body was taken to the Summit County Coroner’s Office to determine the man’s identity and cause of death.

Sheriff’s officials said there is no threat to public safety and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information should contact detectives at 970-423-8919 or matt.sanders@summitcountyco.gov, sheriff’s officials said.
