Mandatory evacuations ordered for 800-acre Alexander Mountain fire in Larimer County

12:41 p.m. The Alexander Mountain fire is an estimated 800 acres as of 12:35 p.m., according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

Evacuation centers are set up at Namaqua Elementary School, 209 N. Namaqua Ave., and the Estes Park Events Complex, 1125 Rooftop Way. Animals can be evacuated to The Ranch at 5290 Arena Circle.

Original story: Larimer County officials ordered mandatory evacuations for people living near Storm Mountain on Monday because of the Alexander Mountain fire.

Anyone living near Storm Mountain and Palisade Mountain, including from Drake to Dam Store along U.S. 34, needs to evacuate immediately, Larimer County officials said in an alert at 11:53 a.m.

Fire crews were responding to a wildfire west of Sylvandale Ranch near U.S. 34 as of 11:47 a.m., the sheriff’s office said in a post on X. The fire was named the Alexander Mountain fire just after noon.

Voluntary evacuations are in effect for people living in the area of Waltonia Road, Eden Valley to Sunrise Ranch and Sylvan Dale to Ellis Ranch, according to a 12:12 p.m. alert. Residents in those areas should gather essential items and prepare to evacuate.

U.S. 34 is closed between County Road 29 and County Road 43 because of the fire.
