Castle Pines brush fire started by juvenile, police say

A brush fire that burned 1.5 acres in a Castle Pines neighborhood was started by a juvenile, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

South Metro Fire Rescue crews responded to the fire near Bristolwood Lane and Monarch Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and quickly contained the flames, according to the department’s posts on X. The fire didn’t damage any structures.

Fire marshal and sheriff’s office investigators found the fire was intentionally set and identified a juvenile suspect, sheriff’s office officials said in a post on X. Criminal charges in the case are pending.

“This incident serves as an important reminder that fire season is upon us,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We urge all residents to exercise caution and to educate their children about the dangers of fire.”
